You do understand that anecdotal evidence is useful. In the parents cases it is a useful and valid example. In your case, it isn't. Assuming from the context of the parents statement, they are giving a counter example to the statement "Since meat eating mums were important to human evolution, today only meat eating mums wean early." In this case the simplest response, one that supports the statement of Elia Psouni, is an anecdote. If i assert that no two numbers add to make 4, the parent equivocally said, "3 and 1 make 4". Whereas your response reads more like "5 and 7 do not make 4; obviously, you're(parent - 3+1) wrong."

It tastes so good, that's why i'm addicted. I'm constantly on and off coffee. I hate the caffeine but love the taste. I'm on decaf now but it tastes bad. What I don't get is people who need to add cream & sugar. Why not just drink soda at that point?

Hemisphere Games Reveals Osmos Linux Sales Numbers 131
An anonymous reader writes "Hemisphere Games analyzes the sales numbers for their Linux port of Osmos and ask themselves, 'Is it worth porting games to Linux?' The short, simple answer is 'yes.' Breakdown and details in the post."
A few other interesting details: the port took them about two man-months of work, the day they released for Linux was their single best sales day ever, and they got a surprising amount of interest from Russia and Eastern Europe. Their data only reflects sales through their website, and they make the point that "the lack of a strong Linux portal makes it a much less 'competitive' OS for commercial development." Hopefully someday the rumored Steam Linux client will help to solve that.

An anonymous reader writes "I work for a company that repairs specialty devices that have an embedded Mini-ATX motherboard without a CD-ROM drive and run Windows XP Home. And while the USB flash drives we insert into them have a physical write-protect tab, we still encounter a (rather annoying) display dialog from malware/viruses to remove the write-protect so the malware can infect the flash drive. We don't remove the write-protect, obviously, but would like to offer our customers the option of removing the malware/virus without having to install any software. We would rather not install/uninstall antivirus software even for one-time use, due to various licensing issues, nor do we want to connect to the Internet to use web-based online scanners. Is there any stand-alone anti-virus/anti-malware software for Windows that can be run directly from the write-protected flash drive itself?"

FSF Asks Apple To Comply With the GPL For Clone of GNU Go 482
I Don't Believe in Imaginary Property writes "The Free Software Foundation has discovered that an application currently distributed in Apple's App Store is a port of GNU Go. This makes it a GPL violation, because Apple controls distribution of all such programs through the iTunes Store Terms of Service, which is incompatible with section 6 of the GPLv2. It's an unusual enforcement action, though, because they don't want Apple to just make the app disappear, they want Apple to grant its users the full freedoms offered by the GPL. Accordingly, they haven't sued or sent any legal threats and are instead in talks with Apple about how they can offer their users the GPLed software legally, which is difficult because it's not possible to grant users all the freedoms they're entitled to and still comply with Apple's restrictive licensing terms."
