Comment Apple's Still a Chip Kiddie (Score 1) 280

Keep in mind that Apple has not been in the chip making business as long as Intel and Qualcomm. There's an entire development ecosystem Apple needs to create and support. Say what you will about Intel, they've had years of experience testing their designs and their silicon. Apple's just getting started. The industry definitely needs a shake up, but expect some big missteps from Apple until they can build up institutional knowledge. Look to Samsung's silicon efforts for comparison.

Comment What's in it for DDP? (Score 1) 110

Excuse me for being a skeptical consumer, but what's in it for the Data Dividend Project? Reading through the Terms & Conditions, DDR is defined as a service. Yet nowhere in their manifesto do they explain their fee structure. DDR doesn't seem particularly transparent. In "joining", I'd be trusting them with the same information I don't trust Google to have. Am I joining a movement or service plan?

Odd, no one ever mentions the mercury CFLs contain. It's a small amount, but given how we Californians already recycle (which is not good) and that curbside recycling doesn't usually accept light bulbs of any kind, most of that mercury will ultimately end up in landfills. Any law that mandates a technology must make sure that technology is disposed of safely.
