The fact that you need to go through such hoops is a problem in itself.

Around the time when Ubuntu "snapped", I switched to Arch and never looked back. If you update regularly, and have fast internet connection, it's an amazing distro with a fantastic wiki. No snaps, flatpaks etc. unless you really want them. Instead, there's lots of software in repos, and even more in AUR. Heaven.

Of course it works, if ACPI implementation is standard conform; admittedly a rare case. There are all these quirks, which Linux has to work around often without disclosure from the manufacturer.

My previous ThinkPad X220, T480s worked, and the current X1 Carbon G10 works, without any issues. Better than Microsoft own Surface Pro company laptop.
