Malata sell karaoke DVD players. I bought one 2 years ago. Their own system in realtime shows the notes you should be singing and the ones you actually hit. So that part of the patent should fail due to prior art. As for networking: play a Malata karaoke song on your TV. Point a netbook at this screen running Skype. Your partner cuurently in a different country also running skype sees the screen and sings along. The return from Skype is captured by a microphone back into the karaoke scoring system. Surprisingly, the latency is sufficiently low that on the 3/4 occassions we have done this between China and Australia, my partner gets a better score than me. So nail the networking part as "obvious" to anyone technically competent. Good luck Apple - the Malata system certainly helped me get in tune!
