Comment Many states do better (Score 1) 337

A number of states have programs like Minnesota's MNlink. These state funded programs allow access to materials from almost all of the public libraries and also include access to materials at number of colleges and universities both public and private. You request material and it is delivered to your local library. In Minnesota anyone with a library card has access to millions of books cds movies and other materials even at smaller rural libraries. This program was created and funded by both parties.

I think it might have already been done. Check the scientific literature. I think I remember seeing something on it. I found this on Google Can you crossbreed tomatoes and tobacco? Baur grafted a tomato plant onto tobacco roots, and voilà, he had a real, live tomacco plant. The two plants can successfully become one because they come from the same plant family, which also includes eggplant and the deadly nightshade. Comment Stop Burning Food (Score 0) 119

I strongly agree we should stop burning food as soon as possible. There is not a shortage of Uranium there is enough Uranium. There are also a large supply of spent rods that could be reprocessed to provide nuclear fuel. That is a very dangerous and dirty en devour. There is type of reactor that creates more fuel than it burns. It is called a breeder reactor and the fuel it produces must be reprocessed to be used. Breeder reactors are considered to be unsafe and there are to my knowledge no such commercial reactors. They are unsafe in two ways both of which involve the reactor being hot. It needs to have a very high level of high energy neutrons to do the breeding. This makes the reactor dangerous to work with. This reactor also runs at a very high temperature. One of the dangers of a nuclear reactor is that the fuel will melt down. The high temperature of the breeder means there is much less of a safety factor in it's operation. Thorium reactors are promising and two countries are now researching them. These two countries have the largest reserves of recoverable thorium. And the countries are India and Russia. Given the current situation giving Russia more control over western energy is unwise. The biggest problem with Uranium reactors is the lead time for getting one going. Typically plants are bid for a 5 year construction but often take two or tree times as long to be completed.

Someone has already figured out how to do this with cell phones. the peoples Republic of China is the winner. They use facial recognition and cell phones and ubiquitous surveillance cameras.
