Your reaction time is literally all that matters when travelling at HIGH SPEED.

Car safety keeps people alive AFTER accidents happen. It doesn't keep them from being unable to react in time because they are driving too fast.

The safety features in the car won't stop you from running over a child in a residential neighborhood when you are speeding. The brakes you have to press will.

Is it physically safer to be in a car traveling at high speed now than it was decades ago? Yes. Does that make traveling at high speed safer for everyone else around you? No, obviously not.
