I worked for HCL in the Dallas Tx area, is a typical Indian company that has some US employees and a very deep bench of H1-B’s. If this group unionizes, HCL will move the US people to a different contract or they can walk. For the H1-B group, they will have HCL remove there sponsorship on their way back to India. Once back in India, HCL could prevent them from changing jobs for a year or more. It would also be known who tried to unionize and that person would not get picked by any other outsourcer. HCL would bring in another batch of H1-B’s and they would sign a contract in India not to unionize where the US has no jurisdiction in local Indian issues. The Union would not provide any cover as the optics would be disastrous. How could a Union demand that H1-B visa holder taking over US jobs be given higher wages, and longer status in the US, all the while on not representing 3rd, 4th, or 5th generation of local union families. I think this group of HCL contractors will get a Darwin Award.

When was the last time the CEO of IBM sat on the service desk? Also ROLM was far from a start-up, but there culture was and is reflected in Silicon Valley today. “West Coast Hippies” purchase by “East Coast Button-ups”. Going from a “Great Place to Work” to a cog in the machine.

It would be great if the Electoral College Member was selected by the November Congressional district vote as opposed to the winner take all. The two College Members that represent the Senators should be based on the total of the state vote. Each party puts forth a slate from their state conventions and the person seated is based on how the party won the congressional district. The United States is republic, not a democracy and the Electoral College reflects that. If people want the popular vote to select the President pass a Constitutional Amendment.
