Comment This was my idea! (Score 1) 36

I called it "organic recommendations" because organic is kind of a trendy word. My idea though was not to get curated suggestions from employees of the company itself, but rather be able to follow friends/influencers, who then offer recommendations that end up in your "feed". Mainly I just want to be able to follow my brother/friends and see what they've been listening to, and allow them to explicitly recommend something to their "followers".

Comment Been There (Score 2) 765

Normally I use gitg, but for some reason on one project it wasn't working correctly so I was using VS Code to do the commits. I have definitely highlighted a couple of files and clicked discard rather than stage by accident. Luckily I still had them open in Sublime Text, so I could just undo and save them again, but still, would be nice if this were harder to do.

Comment Re:Chromecast + Plex Media Server (Score 1) 226

I use the exact same setup. $35 for a Chromecast 2, Plex software on pc is free, plex app (for streaming on chromecast) is free. I run into a few hiccups sometimes with weirdly encoded anime, but for the most part it's completely problem free. Prior to this, I've use PS3MediaServer, and other servers that produce something the PS3 can consume. I tried a Roku 3 for a week and hated it. Way back when I use SMS on a modded PS2, which worked surprisingly well!

Comment 6ish year old computer (Score 1) 982

I upgraded pretty much as soon as it was available (I should probably at some point do a full format and reinstall to get rid of all the windows 8/8.1 baggage), and can really say that there's nothing too special about it. I don't see ads. It has a start menu, but I very rarely use it. The Windows app style media player is pretty crappy, so I still use Media Player Classic. I don't use cortana, and haven't bothered to turn off any of the privacy features. I HAVE had to uninstall a few errant windows store apps, but it's as easy as right clicking the start menu -> remove. All in all, I'm totally fine with it.

Comment Samsung Desktop? (Score 1) 186

My father in law has a Samsung desktop computer he picked up cheap at staples (was obviously a rebranded Korean model). I upgraded it to Windows 10 a few months ago and it's been problem free. Maybe this is only for Samsung laptops?

Comment Gamer Gripes -- Controllers (Score 1) 508

Since I'm a gamer, I'll talk about what I would have changed with modern controllers:

  • No clicky d-pads or buttons. These have started to show up on modern consoles and handhelds. Not only is the audible "click" annoying, but it also feels unnatural, when controlling a player character.
  • Standardized 4 button layout. I'd say go with the Super Nintendo layout, because it was first. Sony had to make up symbols instead, and then Microsoft uses a bastardized Super Nintendo format (which Valve chose to adopt, though this made sense given most PC games expect a 360 controller, even though everyone I know uses a PS3 controller...). Don't even get me started on the OUYA. Since pretty much all controllers have the same components and layouts, they should have the same button naming conventions.
