Thanks to them, for three weekends in a row we get to watch player-controlled spaceships fight it out for accolades and unique in-game items available only to the first, second, and third place winners. This year CCP has all of the content live online and streaming in HD for your viewing pleasure. It might seem that way but its just not the case. In real life I dont even pirate software, music, books, or movies. In fact I make a rather big deal about being open source and recognizing patent and copyright holders rights.

Seeing how easy it would be for me to do these things, based on your assertion, I would go ahead and do it since thats the sort of thing I would have no issues doing in game.

I play the bad guy in game because its fun, and people who run into me enjoy it too. Sure not all but more than you might think. The pleasure I get is from the combat, the role play, not the suffering of the person on the other end. I do find it amusing when someone gets upset or offended that I shot them, because they seem to think that doing so is immoral in the context of a game.

If pvp were a form of cheating then I would hand in hand agree with you, but its not, pvp is part of the mechanic for the game as well as a core feature. What I do in character is no different than people who play FPS's and toss grenades at each other.

1) ok

2) This is hard to test because I win more fights than I lose. However EVE is an abstraction and just pixles so as long as I see explosions and get a good rush from a fight, I really dont mind losing. I do enjoy winning that goes without saying but losing a good fight gives as much of a rush so I leave happy.

In this fight I had overloaded all my guns and taken out most of his drones, but he had 3 warrior's left and I had no web. I died while he was at about 10-15% structure. We spent a good hour talking after the fight about what we did and how we did it, his comment after was summed up as "you taught me to respect destroyers"

I was fighting 2 Assault frigs, they were trying to push me through a gate, while i was trying to split them up. I made an error and rather than jumping through when one did, i stayed and tried to kill the harpy but was too far out of range, so i could not bring my damage to bare. He was at low shields when i exploded. Had i been able to hold on 1-2 seconds more I might have won.

3) Thats BS and you know it. I dont steal, pirate, or kill people in real life. My character is just that its a persona that I adopt when i enter the game. I am able, as a well adjusted and mature person, to separate fantasy from reality all in the name of entertainment. Also EVE is just as casual as you want it to be, it all depends on who and how you play.

Comment Re:Eve a very deep game. (Score 1) 270

bwahhahaha Thanks, glad i can be part of the dark nasty underbelly of the game. People like me are what help give EVE its gritty flavor. It also has nothing to do with being a bully its all about profit. When I play im looking for fun, a challenge and more than anything else a profit. If stealing yours is simpler than making my own then i go for it. Also dont think for a moment that i dont enjoy losing a fight just as much as i like winning it. Some of my best moments in EVE have been losses, along with some amazing wins. Last point... how one chooses to behave in a game does not reflect their real life.

Steam Client for Mac Launches, Linux Client On the Way 572

CyDharttha writes with news that the Mac version of Steam went live today, along with Mac versions of Portal, Team Fortress 2, and many other games. Valve plans to make more games available every Wednesday. Several publications are also reporting that a Linux version of Steam has been confirmed, and is expected within the next few months. Quoting Phoronix: "Found already within the Steam store are Linux-native games like Unreal Tournament 2004, World of Goo, and titles from id Software such as Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and Doom 3. Now that the Source Engine is officially supported on Linux, some Source-based games will be coming over too. Will we finally see Unreal Tournament 3 surface on Linux too? Only time will tell, but it is something we speculated back in 2008. Postal III is also being released this year atop the Source Engine and it will be offering up a native client. We have confirmed that Valve's latest and popular titles like Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, and Team Fortress 2 are among the first of the Steam Linux titles, similar to the Mac OS X support. The released Linux client should be available by the end of summer."

HP's Slate To Be Replaced By WebOS Tablet? 170

itwbennett writes "Last week the rumor mill was rumbling about the demise of HP's Slate. 'This past weekend brought fresh rumors to the surface,' writes blogger Peter Smith. 'Now the insiders are saying that the Slate will be reborn as the HP Hurricane, and it will run WebOS. That makes perfect sense given HP's recent purchase of Palm and HP's declaration that they were 'doubling down on WebOS.' More surprising is the rumored launch date of Q3 of this year, which seems like a pretty fast turn-around. Particularly so if HP ditches the Atom and goes with an ARM processor, which Electronista suggests it would have to do.'"

One In Eight To Cut Cable and Satellite TV In 2010 502

r0k3t writes "It looks like people are finally getting sick of overpriced, ad-infested cable and satellite TV. I had predicted that by 2005 we would mostly be using the net for video — seems like I was a few years off. From the article: 'A cutting-the-cord trend has been the subject of speculation for some time, as networks have increasingly made television programming available for free on the Internet. But a combination of other factors, including a growing number of battles between cable companies and networks, soaring Internet video viewings, and an increase in connected TVs and devices, suggest the trend is finally upon us. ... The biggest reason why customers will cut the cord, according to the study, is the growing cost of pay-TV service. Cable and satellite viewers pay an average of $71 per month, and they receive an average annual price hike of 5%, according to research firm Centris.'" How many of you have made the switch to Internet-only TV, or are considering it? Any regrets?

More Evidence For Steam Games On Linux 256

SheeEttin writes "Back in November 2008, Phoronix reported that Linux libraries appeared in the Left 4 Dead demo, and then in March, Valve announced that Steam and the Source engine were coming to Mac OS X. Now, Phoronix reports that launcher scripts included with the (closed beta) Mac version of Steam include explicit support for launching a Linux version."
