Submission + - Apple Punished for Going After Bloggers

inetsee writes: "Apple has been ordered to pay legal fees for two web sites that reported on an in-development Apple project code named 'Asteroid'. According to the article on WebProNews, Apple was ordered by a Santa Clara County court to pay almost $700,000 in legal reimbursement to AppleInsider and PowerPage after the court agreed with the Electronic Frontier Foundation legal team that the web sites 'qualified as legitimate online news sites' engaging in trade journalism. Apple had claimed that it had a right to protect its trade secrets, but the EFF successfully argued that 'Subpoenaing journalist sources is not an acceptable means of discovery.'"

This is reported to be the first successful test of an engine using the combination of methane and oxygen as fuel. The XCOR Aerospace press release is here, including some impressive pictures."

Submission + - Living the Good Life, Leaving Google Behind

inetsee writes: "A thousand people a day are sending their resumes in to Google, but according to the San Francisco Chronicle, 100 of Google's first 300 workers have left. These are the people who made a lot of money when Google went public, and they have the freedom to do pretty much what they want to. Some have decided to take it easy, but others have gone after new challenges. Google's chef is opening his own restaurant, Olana Khan has joined Kiva.org, a non-profit that makes micro-loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries, and Aydin Senkut has become an angel investor, looking to find (and fund) the next big thing. The article describes several other former Google employees and what they are doing now with the freedom that Google's success has given them."

Submission + - Google Tops 100 Best Places to Work For

inetsee writes: "Forbes Magazine reports that Fortune Magazine has released their 10th annual "100 Best Companies to Work For" list and Google is at number 1. Some highlights of the benefits of working for Goolge that caught my eye were the free gourmet meals and the massages. The chance to spend 20% of your time working on your own personal projects also sounds very appealing. Of course, with resumes rolling in at the rate of 1300 a day, the competition is fierce. Maybe I should look at some of the other companies on the list."
