This may be of interest to the people who aren't well informed: It was Production IG (the animation company who originally produced GITS and the GITS tv series) whom proposed the idea of creating a live action movie in the first place and shopped around for a studio on behalf of Kodansha (owner of the rights). Also, they will I believe be involved enough with the production of the movie.
