Comment Re:The "Protesters" (Score 1) 1128

It's worth remembering that the protests started out peacefully. It was the police who escalated things by responding to peaceful protests with armored vehicles, police in body armor carrying assault rifles, launching tear gas at people exercising their constitutionally protected rights to freedom of assembly and freedom of speech. You have a police force that has abdicated its responsibility to protect and serve the population, and is instead acting like an occupying army and oppressing the community they are sworn to help. And this is after years of targeting the black community. If you act like an occupying force, it's hardly surprising if people start acting like insurgents.

I don't know what you were watching on tv, but I saw the police protecting the police station. Most protesters were just standing around, but a few were throwing things at the police line. Then things began to escalate when a few began jumping all over a police car and breaking its windows. Then the protesters moved to the area where the businesses were broken into, looted and set afire. Again, the police were keeping protesters from getting close to the police stations. Very sad the way things turned out. As usual, the media concentrated on the violence.

Agreed. I don't know why Harper is doing crazy stuff like this. If he doesn't agree with our scientists' research findings, he gets rid of them and/or buries their findings and recommendations. He's dishonest. He's a liar (the Senate scandal. He denies knowing anything about it).

It's no wonder everything is going down the shitter in America these days. People just sit around on online forums and bitch and complain about stuff, but never actually do anything to force a change: they keep throwing their money at the same shitty companies, and keep voting for the same shitty politicians, and expecting things to improve somehow.

Agreed. Few bother to do anything except sound-off. We are a bunch of whiners.

The important bit is "if they ask", so there's no jamming of anything down any throats.

I'll grant that "teach" can seem a bit arrogant, it's just the way of those who believe though, if someone has a really solid faith they'll believe it as the absolute truth. I'm more of the opinion that we should be fully open-minded on both sides of the coin, but again, opinions.

"If they ask" would be just fine. It's been my experience many time--as with a next-door neighbour--that they seem driven to talk about it obsessively. I've heard it said many times over the years that when you are into religion at that level, it's an illness. Most whom I have met involved in these evangelical religions, seemed narrow-minded, and not receptive to ideas other than their own.
