If the xvid and divx codecs use ASM to speed things up, and they haven't done optimizations for x86_64, it may just be a matter of them revving up the code to see huge speed gains. I know that on my 64 bit linux box gcc seems a hell of a lot faster then it ever did on 32 bit x86.
