Comment Nobody knows what an NFT really is (Score 1) 22

Nobody in this entire thread really understands what NFT technology can really be used for.

Yes, in the spotlight today are all these "million dollar" images that are sold as NFTs, but that is an awful use-case that barely scratches the surface of what NFTs can really be. This isn't supposed to be a way to copyright stuff or prevent others from accessing it when you bought it. It's all on a public ledger, so of course others will be able to copy-and-paste it.

An NFT allows verification of the transfer of ownership of some digital asset, where you can cryptographically prove ownership afterwards. Think more like stadium tickets, where your ticket is an NFT, you can prove that you own the ticket at the gate by cryptographically verifying with your wallet, and you can trade them safely with other people (no worries about getting a fake ticket and getting stiffed at the gate).

Or like in-game items, where items are NFTs, you can trade them with other players. Similar to current database implementations, but would use blockchain technology, Something like Steam items or CS:GO skins could easily be NFTs.

I'm sad to see this misguided "outrage" towards NFT technology. There is so much that it could be used for, and opposition like this for the wrong reasons only hinders development.
