Excellent point on when... but that's a different argument since it will be released later this month per the leaked promo. I know the specs of the Xoom. I don't know the specs of the iPad2. Personally I don't think the planned Xoom is a good deal. It is too expensive (for me...) But this has to be Moto's first round competitor priced towards the flagship iPad2. That is the goal. If you want a low tier tablet sub-$500 go somewhere else for now or wait for a stripped down Xoom. I'm sure it will come later since EVERYONE is posting about the price. -All IMHO... I in no way have any product in sight.

How Microsoft Beats GNU/Linux In Schools 476

twitter writes "Ever wonder why schools still use Windows? Boycott Novell has extracted the details from 2002 Microsoft email presented in the Comes vrs Microsoft case and other leaks. What emerges is Microsoft's desperate battle to 'never lose to Linux.' At stake for Microsoft is more than a billion dollars of annual revenue, vital user conditioning and governmental lock in that excludes competition, and software freedom for the rest of us. Education and Government Incentives [EDGI] and "Microsoft Unlimited Potential" are programs that allows vendors to sell Windows at zero cost. Microsoft's nightmare scenario has already been realized in Indiana and other places. Windows is not really competitive and schools that switch save tens of millions of dollars. Because software is about as expensive as the hardware in these deals, the world could save up to $500 million each year by dumping Microsoft. Now that the cat is out of the bag, it's hard to see what Microsoft can do other than what they did to Peter Quinn."

There are quite a few greasemonkey scripts out there that modify iGoogle. Just do a search for iGoogle on userscripts.org

Personally, I use "Super iGoogle - Mod"

I hate the way the search bar header and the tabs use up vital real estate, so this script gets rid of both with a toggle link called Toogle.

Intel To Lay Off 1000 Managers 291

sprash writes to mention a Forbes article about an Intel cost-cutting measure. In response to stiff competition from AMD, the company is laying off 1000 managerial positions. From the article: "In April, Intel reported a 38 percent drop in first-quarter profit as demand slackened for PCs and microprocessors from AMD continued to steal market share. That same month, Chief Executive Paul Otellini vowed to spend the next 90 days identifying underperforming business groups and cost inefficiencies in an effort to save the company $1 billion a year. He said he planned to make changes as his analysis progressed, rather than waiting until the end of his review."
