as a network admin running win/linux boxes in an educational environment and having restricted time for maintenance, this is the only way to go by having stock standard setups for most of anything on the desktop and yes i have been guilty of getting in to the group policy editor and making it difficult for people to ghange the workstation from the original image.
this is not forcing my preferences onto other people this is being efficient for my employer when it comes to checking 16 PC's x 5 classrooms
for the teachers classes.
I have been guilty of re-imaging a complete drive because i did not have the time to sit and standardize a desktop for the next class.
this is how it works for me.
we use altiris corporate software. which is costly but it blows ghost away for ant task more than cloning a drive.
