....it's shaped like a Dalek?

Unfortunately it's more like a server rack on wheels, with the UV lights mounted on the outside.

As someone mentioned above, it would be cool if it shouted "Exterminate!" as it worked. I think that a quarter scale Dalek would fit inside of it.

Except that they've been copying just the shell parts, by the look of it: one can't yet replace the Windows UI w/, say, KDE or other DEs

You used to be able to replace part of the UI. Litestep was one that I used, and probably one of the most common shells, but there were others.

You can turn that feature off.

I had several of those invites, and after deleting about a half dozen or so, looked for the setting to disable them. It's under settings, next to the last option, titled Events from Gmail. Uncheck the box that reads "Automatically add events from Gmail to my calendar"

Haven't had a problem since I turned that off.

It's a hassle where I live in Iowa. The only place locally I know for sure where I can get the 5 cent refund is at a Walmart. They have a row of machines with a hole to insert the can or bottle, although they only accept products they sell, kicking anything else back out. In the end, it prints out a coupon for the amount of the refund, which is only usable at Walmart. AFAIK, it can't be redeemed for cash. It's not worth the hassle to do a small amount, and I don't have the room to save up cans and bottles enough to make it worthwhile, so we give them to a neighbor every week or so.

Submission + - New graphene concrete is two times stronger (inhabitat.com)

Paige.Bennett writes: In a recent study, University of Exeter’s Center for Graphene Science used nanoengineering technology to add graphene to concrete production. The resulting graphene concrete is two times stronger than traditional concrete and four times as water resistant, but with a much smaller carbon footprint compared to the conventional process of making concrete. According to the university, the addition of graphene cuts back on the amount of materials needed in concrete production by nearly 50 percent and reduces carbon emissions by 446 kg per ton.
