You are forgetting that almost any homeowner can maintain and clean a furnace and flame sensors and the furnace is inside the house protected from environment. But only a special technician can do refrigerant and heat pumps maintenance and the unit is outside and will always be affected by some ice or dust collecting in coils. Maintenance costs will easily eat up any advantage
