Submission + - Search Engines Illegal In Australia

An anonymous reader writes: A court ruling has given the recording industry the green light to go after individuals who link to material from their websites, blogs or MySpace pages that is protected by copyright.

A full bench of the Federal Court yesterday upheld an earlier ruling that Stephen Cooper, the operator of mp3s4free.net, as well as the internet service provider that hosted the website, were guilty of authorising copyright infringement because they provided a search engine through which a user could illegally download MP3 files.

The website did not directly host any copyright-protected music, but the court held that simply providing links to the material effectively authorised copyright infringement.

Journal Journal: Finished. . .for now

This damned semester is finally over. Data warehousing, while a boring class, has given me insight in what I want to do with my life. Unfortunately, data warehousing is not what I want to get into. I am better for having taken that course however. I did come out with a decent enough understanding of the fundamentals. With this final summer session, I will be done with college forever (to hell with an mba).

Journal Journal: Long time no see

Has been almost a year since I have written anything here. Time commitments at two jobs and school have limited my Slashdotting to just the basics of browswing, and the occassional meta-moderating. Feel now is as good a time as ever to get back into writing down whats goin on. Life changes so fast and you sometimes need to reflect back at whats goin on. I hope to use these journal as an outlet to clear my thoughts every couple days.

Will be nice to not have to be on my feet if I dot want. Going to start back working out tomorrow too. Took about three months off and its taken its toll on my body. Will have to whip it back into shape.

Journal Journal: Not a wasted day

I literally spent all of today watchin the Chappelle show season 2 dvds (3). And it was time well spent. I got them as soon as Best Buy opened up at 10 and started watchin when I got home at around 10:15. Having not seen those episodes in over a year, I forgot how funny they were. Just hope they release something for season three pretty soon.

Journal Journal: Chappelle Show Eve

Been a couple days since my last entry. No particular reason for that. Excited that "Chappelles Show" season two dvd finally comes out tomorrow. Will be in line to get that. No working tomorrow so I am watchin that all day. Besides that and working on a template for my website, I will be pretty busy.

Journal Journal: HDTV

My parents finally got the hi-def tv thing goin today. Still waiting for the local channel dish. I have watched shows before in hi-def, but actually taking the time and switching back and forth between hi-def and non hi-def viewings of the same program is really what makes the difference. Funny thing is, all this hubbub about who has it now, when in a couple years, everyone will.

Journal Journal: B-day

My brother's birthday is tomorrow. Getting ready to turn the big 9. I got him what he wanted, a Will Smith cd (shudder) and the Incredibles game for PS2. This kid has it so much better than me at his age. They just got HD Direct TV and a 52 inch Toshiba DLP. Lucky son of a gun. Oh well, you want the younger wants to have what you didnt.

Journal Journal: Queens of the Stone Age

Saw QOTSA on Saturday Night Live. I have been unable to get their song out of my head. Its in rotation at work and I downloaded it from MSN today. I had to stop by Best Buy for my schedule so I decided to pick it up. A great cd. So I have spent most of the past several hours listening to it.

Journal Journal: Television

Spent my Sunday night doing the normal, watchin a little "Grey's Anatomy". Pretty good show, too bad is only began in the middle of the year. Probably the best for it though, might not have made it during the September/October premiere. One of the best done shows on tv. Give it a watch in reruns this summer.

Journal Journal: Betamax

Saw an article that mentioned the word "betamax" so I have been looking up the technology for the better part of the day. Did not know that the machines were produced wide spread into the early 90's. Being 22, I never used or saw one in person. Weird how passing a word in an article will lead you on an adventure.

Journal Journal: Done workin

Just returned home from working at the old Best Buy. I hope me being on this site is enough to show people that some people who work at Best Buy know what they are talking about when it comes to technology. Though most are total idiots, I will admit. Time to enjoy a day off.

Journal Journal: Frickin Firefox

Installed Macroeditor extension for Firefox last night. Then it stated doing this cute thing where if I started it, it would show up as a process, but would not run. Had to do a complete uninstall because of one extension. So it goes, still happy with it.

Journal Journal: New member

My first journal entry. Never really dug deep into slashdot before I guess. Did not know they had a subscription service so I didnt have to deal with all the adds. Decided to buy one and that lead me to register finally. Love the website and hope to say inciteful things here. Probably not though. Just some basic ramblings. Peace.
