hpa writes: Nine Inch Nails announced yesterday on their website that they are now "a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label". CNet also have a story on this, and points out that Radiohead took this step not long ago. CNet asks "Who needs middlemen?", and it will be very interesting to see if independent promotion can be more effective than the RIAA production-distribution monopoly.
