Comment Real life (Score 1) 2288

I firmly believe that the metric system is really superior in a lab, and maybe in artificial units but i find the fact that the SI system is based off of an easy to relate to system. maybe i am an oddity, but i am an average size american male, just shy of 6 foot tall, 5foot 11 and 3/4ths from when i bought life insurance. I wear a size 11.5 shoe and i find the standard system to work quite well for me in real life. my foot is actually with in 5% of the SI foot unit so guess what if i want to measure something i can walk it heal to toe and get a good idea of what it is. also my stride is almost exactly 3 feet, now i find it very easy to pace off large distances and be fairly accurate. i also can walk 1 mile every 20 minutes, and have it be almost on the money. at the same time i can walk up to a horse, pick a part on my body where its sholder is and use my hand to get how tall the horse is with in a half in every time... (hands are not very common SI units but they are very useful, again my hand is almost 4" wide) again i think that the metric system is very useful for converting between units, but i think standard units are much easier for mere mortals to relate to

Since i have not heard anyone mention what i consider the biggest downside to owing a modular home is that they are virtually impossible for a bank to lend on them, the are not that much cheaper than a stick house and most of them are built to the same standards as medium quality track home which i dont call great. that being said my house is great, i just would have been sol with out private financing.... or cash to buy it outright....

I have not seen it hear, but i would suggest Sun Rays. They are an awesome technology that allows you to run solar/linux windows and even mac os all on the same desktop client. They are very low maintenance as well as fairly low cost. deploying 5000 of them could be done almost as fast as you can take them out of the box and they last forever. my only concern is now that oracle owns them who knows were they are going

I sit here an american in the uk watching a great news story about how the everyone in the uk is guaranteed a H1N1 vaccine and think that is awesome, i wish we had that in the us... oh wait the rest of the story is that apparently there are 2 different vaccines, one that is tested on pregnant women, and one that is not(which is also apparently not WHO approved) and you have not say in which one you get, even if you are pregnant, it is what ever the doctor has... sounds like a great plan, i would rather pay and know what i get....

I saw this technology 2 years ago mated to their docutech print engine, it really make me laugh because it was basically 200,000 inkjet add on to a 300,000 laser printer.... and they mentioned they were having a hard time marketing it and the prototype they had in pasadena disassmbled... i could not understand why....
