I have used www.priceusa.com.au to purchase quite a range of items. Clothing, Amazon items, electronics. Never had any issues. They are always fast to respond to inquires. They order the goods, which are delivered to an address in the USA, then shipped to you. A lot of friends use ComGateway to purchase items from Amazon and a few other places.

Speaking to friends who work and live in China it really isn't that hard to get around the GFW. China are using it to keep the masses controlled and limit their access, but at the same time, leaving it easy enough to get around that the "elite" are still able to use the Internet to its full potential. Making it possible for large companies to compete globally.

While the specs are useless for vista, it works blazingly fast on Ubuntu with the Enlightenment Window Manager. The machine is now officially sold out of their online warehouses, and the product sales page at WalMart.com is full of glowing reviews from new and old linux users alike."

An anonymous reader writes "Sean Moss-Pultz has just announced on the OpenMoko mailing list that the Neo1973 is finally available for purchase. OpenMoko.com is now taking orders via credit card. OpenMoko intends to 'free your phone' through a hardware-independent and open source user interface backed by the Linux kernel. This device could very well stand as a competitor to the more expensive Apple iPhone, but at a fraction of the price and with no vendor lock-in. Although the devices in this release cycle (GTA01) are mainly intended for developers, the up-and-coming devices targeted to the consumer market (GTA02) will also feature WiFi capabilities, a 3D acceleration unit, and 256MB of on-board flash. Both units will use the MicroSD card interface for removable storage and have USB client / host capabilities. For a full feature list, check out OpenMoko.com or the OpenMoko Wiki."

willith writes: "Apple has placed three iPhone commercials on their web site today, and each of them end with a tag: "Coming June 29". This puts to rest the question of when the thing will hit the streets, but there are still worries about allocation — some sites are reporting that the allocation of iPhones to Cingular/AT&T stores will be relatively tight. The adverts do however shed light on another previously-unanswered question — the iPhone will only be available with a new two-year contract."

Feed PLX Technology shows off USB Duet-enabled UMPCs (engadget.com)

PLX Technology is taking advantage of this week's Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (otherwise known as WinHEC) to talk up its proprietary USB Duet technology, with TabletKiosk also helping out in showing off some of the UMPC-centric possibilities. As shown above, one potential application is a UMPC connected to an Xbox 360, with USB Duet working its magic to allow the UMPC to simply show up as a standard USB storage device. A UMPC could also be connected to a PC (though apparently not a Mac), sharing not only storage, but the PC's monitor, keyboard, and mouse as well. From the looks of it, TabletKiosk's eo TufTab v7112XT will be the first USB Duet-equipped UMPC although, interestingly, there was no mention of that particular feature when the device was first announced.

bricko noted a story of our modern journalism world gone so wrong it makes me sad. "Editor-in-Chief Harry McCracken quit abruptly today because the company's new CEO, Colin Crawford, tried to kill a story about Apple and Steve Jobs." The link discusses that the CEO was the former head of MacWorld and would get calls from Jobs. Apparently he also told the staff that product reviews had to be nicer to vendors who advertise in the magazine. The sad thing is that given the economics of publishing in this day and age, I doubt anything even comes of this even tho it essentially confirms that PC World reviews should be thought of as no more than press releases. I know that's how I will consider links from them in the future. But congratulations to anyone willing to stick to their guns on such matters.

Submission + - New submarine cable system between SE Asia and US

el_flynn writes: The Star Online's TechCentral is reporting on a new submarine cable system that will link South East Asia directly with the USA. Designated Asia-America Gateway (AAG), the project will involve a consortium of 17 international telcos, including AT&T Inc, India's Bharti AirTel, BT Global Network Services, CAT Telekom (Thailand), Eastern Telecommunications Philippines Inc (Philippines), Indosat (Indonesia) and Pacific Communications Pte Ltd (Cambodia). Led by Telekom Malaysia Berhad, the project is slated for completion in 2008, where 20,000km of cables will be providing a capacity of up to 1.92 Terabits per second of data bandwidth.

Interestingly, the fibre-optic cable system will be taking "a different route from many existing cables to avoid quake-prone areas and a repeat of the disruption to Asian web access caused by a tremor off Taiwan four months ago."

Will this then see a rise in the amount of spam/virus/viagra coming out of the region?

Yeah, Wiimotes aren't the only motion-sensing game controllers that can be hacked for fruitless new uses. Take the new SIXAXIS Linux integration project, which, so far as we can tell, is an incredibly effective means for maneuvering small, custom robots in need of a good 3D controller for manipulating, um, a small flat plane. We have a feeling this won't be the last we've heard of this little project. Video after the break.
