I'm one of those who sees future with automated subways, trains and alike everywhere, instead of personal vehicles. And 80 mph totally fine actually, while it cant put someone around in danger.
First, if you can't modularize your code - it's not framework' fault.
Second, if a piece of code work like a clock (read: goodwritten), then you can port it to any modern platform with any modern language. That not includes special cases, e.g. porting from OGL ES 2 to OGL ES 1.
And third, don't fight against framework, use it perks instead. ifdefs is not a framework but compiler feature, it may not work fine with framework because framework was written for a particular device, not for a GCC.
The biggest mistake you can make is to believe that you are working for someone else.
