Comment Sad day for food freedom (Score 1) 1229

It's a sad day for those who wish to live in a world free of frankenfoods. It wouldn't be so bad if GMO could live happily ever after all by itself, but we all know that it's going to cross and contaminate everything else. We should have a right to choose whether or not we want GMO but it's existence seems to threaten normal (organic) food. If a coal fired power plant is spewing sulfur into your backyard and you shut down their plant or force them to install scrubbers is it a sad day for power generation freedom??

Online Carpooling Service Fined In Canada 541

TechDirt is reporting on a disappointing development out of Canada. An Ontario transportation board has fined PickupPal, a Web-based service for arranging carpools, because a local bus company complained of the competition. (TechCrunch apparently first broke the story.) "[The transportation board has] established a bunch of draconian rules that any user in Ontario must follow if it uses the service — including no crossing of municipal boundaries — meaning the service is only good within any particular city's limits. It's better than being shut down completely, and the service can still operate elsewhere around the world, but this is yet another case where we see regulations, that are supposedly put in place to improve things for consumers, do the exact opposite."

It seems the multithreading layer in Firefox bogs down really easily, as there are often delays when loading multiple pages in the background. Also the speed at which you can open a new tab is a lot slower. I wonder if there are certain performance metrics which FF team is using to test the app. Eg. "Time to Open 100 new Tabs must be 2s" Still any improvement is a welcome addition as I am totally reliant on Firefox for its excellent developer tools.
