Apparently the evidence for this is already in. To quote a student I know currently studying their masters in psychology:

"The sad thing is that the education system does not use evidence based practice to teaching. They just do things because it “feels right”. Educational psychologists have been saying that this method to teaching is not helpful and doesn’t have positive learning outcomes. Especially for students who are already struggling. The educational system hasn’t really changed the curriculum at universities and therefore is still churning out teachers that use whole language or mixed approach when the evidence suggests phonics."

It is arguable all previous labour automation technologies have also been automating cognition. We've been able to automatically apply raw force without the use of humans for millennia. Doing it in a controlled/reactive way is much more difficult. There was a time when weaving fabric was a very cognitively demanding job. Also there seems to be a fallacy here that past automation had created jobs in the same industries that it removed them from. This has never been true. As always, the rate at which automation will replace all the jobs is being overstated by people who are least familiar with the actual capabilities of AI. Until researchers manage to develop general artificial intelligence, I suspect this cycle will continue to repeat.

That's kind of like saying that a 2D flat panel TV displays voxels because you can calculate the screen pixel data from voxels for a 3D scene. You can, but clearly a 2D TV is only capable of displaying pixels. In the same way the holographic display use hogels. Sure you can calculate these from voxel data, but the display can only show hogels. You may want to read up on how holograms work.

Maybe it would make less sense for FPS games, but for something like Starcraft, a 3D display like this would be fantastic. It would offer the possibility of more complex terrain with more interesting strategic implications.

No. A hologram is not constructed out of voxels because they only carry density information, hogels carry the interference data to recreate a projection from any orientation in space.

Great idea. Because of the amazing way the internet works (information only the learned nerds trully understand,) no one needs to take any responsibility for anything on the net. Great thinking here guys. As for whether death is a good way to solve unhappiness? I guess the happy and unhappy would have different views on this so I'm not sticking my nose into this one, suffice it to say that if the Australian's are happy with a law stating suicide is illegal, then this legislation is nothing more but a natural extension to that law. For those of you less learned in ways of lands beyond the US. There is no automatic guarantee of freedom of speech in Australia (much like Britain.) As such, discussion about the benefits and pitfalls of freedom of speech is best reserved for elsewhere.
