Comment Amazon will learn about shrinkage soon. (Score 1) 41

The stealing which happens in regular stores is unimaginable. Have you visited a Walmart recently? Everything is under lock and key. The technical term for losing merchandise by stealing is called shrinkage - all retail is now experiencing phenomenal amount of shrinkage - that tells you about the quality of life of an American these days - I see this all the time in the Walgreens I work - it is unimaginable. They might even shut down the store soon I think. This was definitely not the case a decade ago.

Submission + - SPAM: Best AI Browsers

hemanr writes: You know that feeling when you have 50+ browser tabs open and you can't remember which one has that important article you found three hours ago? Yeah, that's the problem with traditional browsers.

Whether you're a researcher drowning in sources, a creative collecting inspiration, or just someone tired of bookmark chaos, the right AI browser can turn your scattered online work into something that actually makes sense.

But here's the thing: not all AI browsers are created equal. Some are basically Chrome with a chatbot stuck on the side. Others are so experimental you feel like a beta tester instead of someone trying to get work done.

After testing dozens of AI browsers and analyzing real user workflows, we've found the 8 best AI browsers that actually deliver in 2025.

https://www.spandidos-publicat... Abstract The health risks of nicotine are well known, but there is some evidence of its beneficial effects on cognitive function. The present review focused on the reported benefits of nicotine in the brain and summarizes the associated underlying mechanisms. Nicotine administration can improve cognitive impairment in Alzheimer's disease (AD), and dyskinesia and memory impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD). In terms of its mechanism of action, nicotine slows the progression of PD by inhibiting Sirtuin 6, a stressresponsive protein deacetylase, thereby decreasing neuronal apoptosis and improving neuronal survival. In AD, nicotine improves cognitive impairment by enhancing protein kinase B (also referred to as Akt) activity and stimulating phosphoinositide 3kinase/Akt signaling, which regulates learning and memory processes. Nicotine may also activate thyroid receptor signaling pathways to improve memory impairment caused by hypothyroidism. In healthy individuals, nicotine improves memory impairment caused by sleep deprivation by enhancing the phosphorylation of calmodulindependent protein kinase II, an essential regulator of cell proliferation and synaptic plasticity. Furthermore, nicotine may improve memory function through its effect on chromatin modification via the inhibition of histone deacetylases, which causes transcriptional changes in memoryrelated genes. Finally, nicotine administration has been demonstrated to rescue longterm potentiation in individuals with sleep deprivation, AD, chronic stress and hypothyroidism, primarily by desensitizing 7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. To conclude, nicotine has several cognitive benefits in healthy individuals, as well as in those with cognitive dysfunction associated with various diseases. However, further research is required to shed light on the effect of acute and chronic nicotine treatment on memory function.

Uber did not make the app to provide employment for people. It was meant to be a ride share app. Also if you don't want to work for Uber/Lyft, you can switch off the app, or decide not to take a request. So the company doesn't have a employer/employee relationship and cannot apply rules like a hired on employee. If the government has to 'get them', they have to come up with some other way. The maximum stretch what the rideshare drivers can be classified is 'independent contractors'.

Comment Wind change due to global warming? (Score 0) 334

This is one we should not overlook, I guess we should model the global warming and windflows before we plan on wind farms. Because the wind could change in the future where there is wind now. I heard this is a problem now with Texas wind farms. Low generation, since the wind is not blowing. Not sure if it is from global warming or some other cause. But something to think about.

1. EV Battery gets 310 miles is a completely unscientific way to say it. How it should be mentioned is - in 20 minutes it can take in certain KWHr of energy. How the KWHr of energy used by various EVs are up to them, that is like how different vehicles get different miles. In the cars which exist now, I think every KWHr gets 3 miles. So if you have to consider that kind of a range, 100KWHr has to be stored in the battery. Which means we have system to pump 300KW in 20 mins. with 440V systems, the amperage required for that is 680A. Think about the thickness of a cable we need Think about the charger electronics we need Maybe it might exist in industrial version, Would it be possible to have this as a consumer version? Forget about charging from home. So many questions to be answered.
