Journal heliocentric's Journal: Project Mayhem: Oh, Wow 16
"You had a near-life experience," the mechanic says.
Since this is your first assignment for Project Mayhem I am giving you very simple marching orders. This is something that I see no reason why everyone shouldn't be able to do this at least once during the course of his or her day. The key part of Project Mayhem is reporting back to this journal entry with what happened. It is through this that I hope we will have some of the best laughs, the sharing of the "mayhem." Tomorrow's project I expect will provide much greater laughs if enough people do it, however it won't be as simple as today... so, let's get on with it already.
Today you will have a conversation with someone where the only phrase you will use will be "Oh, wow." [1]
You need not have any real emphatic expression, or perhaps you will be overjoyed to the point of suspicion. I really don't care, but report back with your choice and how things go. Perhaps try it several times on different people in different ways and compare and contrast your findings. See how long you can keep it up, possibly keep score.
Suggestions on use:
Co-worker telling you about their weekend.
Spouse listing the things you need to accomplish this week.
Tech-support phone call (use with caution).
Telemarketer's phone call.
Journal Entries (not this one, let's not be *too* obvious)
Again, this will really only work if you try this AND post back with information about who you tried this on and what their reaction was, so check back often to see how others are making out and for possible suggestions from them.
This project is dedicated to Pastor Allen who seems unable to have a conversation with out a deadpan "oh, wow... wow... oh, wow" in it.
[1] To spice things up during a rather long conversation mix things up by occasionally dropping the interjection and just using "Wow."
