The FAA uses assembly languag for radar real time processing and analysis. Their RISK and Mainframe (IBM-390) use C++ and ADA for part of the processing and links to assembly language for radar data processing (RDP). Air Traffic Controllers need to know where the aircraft in their sectors are positioned within seconds rather than minutes for 5 mile seperation. The problem with ADA is too few programmers know how to code it though it is similar to Pascal. I used hardware logic analyzers (Tektronix)to measure the throughput for the differnt languages for each data type; ie radar, tabular (flight info), beacon (transponder info), keyboard (controller input) etc.
