Comment IT recruiters are ignorant and lazy (Score 1) 101

IT recruiters are ignorant and lazy. They prefer job specs to contain a list of required skills that they simply cross reference against the skills of each candidate. This makes their life very easy and they donâ(TM)t really have to understand our industry. This means that your main objective as a young programmer starting out is to cover as many technologies as possible. This distracts young programmers away from far more important areas of their learning and development. When I interview candidates for junior dev positions I never ask technical questions. To me that is like asking a CFO candidate questions about excel macros. I want to know what value the candidate has helped create in previous jobs. Can he or she take a small problem statement, do some research and come back with a proposed solution? I ask abstract questions and look for innovative solutions. As developers we have to create value for our employers and customers, often from a clean sheet and a poorly formulated problem statement. So, I donâ(TM)t care how well you know AWS Lambda, and I donâ(TM)t care about your certifications.
