My 2cents is the Linux ecosystem doesn't work well together, you might have a stable OS, but then the UI and apps suck balls, there is no good financial backing for consumer software companies to make apps for the OS. There are many times I tried to use Ubuntu for my work machines, while it's easy to use for software dev box but the apps I wanted to use were not there, the desktop was so unstable to make me move to OSX. OSX is great, you get a decent shell, and also stable desktop and plenty of solid apps.

1. Spotify has a lot of songs that Google play don't have.
2. Spotify foreign language songs have proper titles, compare to Google play only have English version titles.
3. Spotify has clients for all popular operating systems, and Google play only have web version on Mac (there is free okay-ish third party one)

However I stopped paying for Spotify because of Youtube red includes free google play subscription.

How feasible is it to build an encryption that is guarded by all users, so that if more than 80% of the users agree to "unlock" such device, then the decryption key is revealed? Cases like "Syed Rizwan Farook" will get the go ahead from most of the users, given that they know this decryption key only works for a particular phone. But then how do we safe guard this platform?

I am not sure what your technical background is, but what I am sure is, when you want to migrate something important you need to use the phase out approach, which is simulating the production.
