by the way have u ever worked any version beyond Express if not then i think there is no point comparing products, I have use professional versions of Java IDEs as well as Visual Studio and I know there are many things where MS trails but it rocks in IDE and langauge development and thats been a silent key of success for them
I am surprised to see the slashdotter's response, if this is somehow Micorsoft , i might heard long list of moanings that microsoft is this and that and now look if the culprit is their hearty [Pine]Apple this is just a joke or laugh...
such a hypocrisy as usual from slashdotters, we are living in countries where everything is monitored and censored (esp UK & USA and considering I am Muslim and i m sure these words i m typing too ) and still we all moaning about Iran's censorship. Lets play in equal field, every government has their policies either wrong or right and we cant criticize on standing wrong footed.
P.S. it does not mean whatever Iranian Govt is doing is right as well !!!!
Just to add my 2 cents, Can i ask from EC that why the same rule not applied to MAC & all Xx Flavors. All of them came preinstalled with one browser. So wont they forced to provide a bundle of options for the consumer to select which one they want to install. (please dont come barking at me that Linux/Unix Flavours offer packaging but remember we are talking about pre installation.).
As a developer , i know one of the biggest advantage of MS is for simple consumers is that they provide products which are ready to roll (and thats where open source failed). So actually in this way if you are moving these kind of selections to the consumer he wont know what to do (even he just have to select a check box while purchasing the machine...).
so i think we should not fine microsoft just becuase it has 80/90 % share of personal computers. and if we do want to do that then make sure same rule should apply to google !!!
guys are missing one point, java does revolve around desktop (esp windows) but dont forget those devices like Nokia's,Sony Erricson etc for whom you have to browse through hundred of pages to find a trustworthy application, I think it could be a big thing unless they did it properly:)
