Comment A useful direction for cheap energy (Score 1) 206

If they can Lead the way in 4th Gen Nuclear reactors such as sodium they could very well win the energy wars hands down with cheap spent rods as fuel. But, because it's France, it could take them 20 years to do what the rest of the world does in 5 or 10. They might be better off paying someone else to build it for them.

Comment Why not make a simple VDI license for Hyper-v? (Score 1) 102

Seriously, if they made a simpler less expensive VDI license for Hyper-v or any virtual desktop really for like 2 to 5 bucks a month so it was say 30 bucks a year per user. Then, I could take my dual 10 core server and max it out, Raid 10, a bunch of ram and dual 10gb cards etc.. Should be good for 50 users on even on a 6 year old Dell R720 I think you would achieve acceptable performance and you would probably gain a much much larger following of users that you can advertise to to make the jump to other products etc.

Even more enormously expensive is Pride marketing, sales, and engineer decision bugs. I once heard of someone saying that the led charging light should turn to green at 60 percent battery rather than 90 percent. This basically led to more than 1000 returns and or exchanges of product due to battery life because people would start running the device at 60 percent juice instead of 90 or 100%. These devices were 300+ each. Imagine 10,000 battery replacements because people felt like it wasn't fully charging, or because someone in engineer created his own material that cause device failure.

Sadly, you are correct. I think personally, it's kind of a dumb thing considering the cost of the cameras and running them they would really be better off using them more of in a passive/active method to report crimes, look out for porch pirates, etc. I don't think they will gain near enough from forcing policies through cameras and data collection. I understand the GPS tracking and external cameras for standard data collection updates to things like google maps, monitoring for would be thieves. They would likely save a lot more on that end of things than driver monitoring. The simple fact is that drivers especially ones who've been doing it for many years know what they need to do in order to stay safe and get the job done. If they can't get the job done you need to make it easy for them to tag out of their shift without fear of consequences as long as they aren't doing it a lot.

I'm curious if they vary the payment methods around a bit on what payment cycle works best getting up to the total number. Daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly I'm sure for a number of these folks if they got daily(5 days a week) or weekly payments they would actually function a lot better. Some people just have shorter attention spans when it comes to money, and those smaller payments typically help them learn how to deal with money better.

It can't happen. 1. it's not handicap compatible nor does it offer wheelchair assistance that a driver would. 2. while driver expense will go down the maintenance expense will rise on account of shorter maintenance cycles to check damages from a bump in the road etc. 3. Rider safety is decreased on the van level as you can't protect passengers from each other. What can happen, primary is that Drivers can be paid less because they now do less. But questions will remain 1. to sub out liability can they make it so when passengers are present one of them will be behind the wheel and driving with aid of computer unless passenger is intoxicated 2. what happens when passenger falls asleep and doesn't leave the car 3. what happens if passenger dies during travel. 4. what happens when passenger needs emergency assistance

Comment Re:Simon says no (Score 1) 260

I can't really see a city like san francisco being all about the money in this case. It's really all about following the rules that everyone else does. If you airBNB your place you increase stress on city services, traffic, parking, sewer, Police, fire, etc. You also run the risk of safety violations and you are basically increasing the rent pricing of which the city has very specific rent control over. Which if you took advantage of the rent controlled apartments in the city you could technically make a killing on those apartments through AIRBNB. Those rent controls are there to help low income households live in the city they wouldn't be able to otherwise or continue to live in a home they've rented for 30 years etc. keeping people a part of the community rather than ripping it apart.
