That's indeed true! The Model 3 changes the market conditions a lot. After all, the Model S is pretty much a luxury car. But regarding the roof, @rgbatduke is indeed correct. Tesla's solar tiles can cost like 6 times the price of normal panels! 6 times for an already expensive technology!! From what I read, a solar roof is about $40,000-$50,000, while even a larger solar installation costs like $9,000-$10,000 for normal systems (according to this page: https://www.greenmatch.co.uk/blog/2014/08/what-is-the-installation-cost-for-solar-panels )
