U.S. Investigating Sale of Snort as Security Risk 327

msmoriarty writes "The Associated Press is reporting today that the same U.S. committee that approved the Dubai ports deal is 'strongly objecting' to Israeli-based Check Point's acquisition of Snort's parent company, Sourcefire, because it doesn't want a foreign company to own Snort's underlying technology. According to the article, the broader 45-day review process rejected for the ports deal is already underway regarding this transaction, and 'secret' meetings between the FBI, DoD and Check Point have been held."

LSDVD Starts Cooking 152

A reader writes: "The guys at LSDVD, now funded, are going to pay the powers that be the licensing fee and the per program royalties for the rights to make and sell a DVD player for Linux. This means that a free, give-em-hell, fight-the-power, Linux DVD player is a long ways off" - you can read the news on the homepage. Remember, LinDVD is also moving and shaking as well.

Comment Sun optical mice (Score 1) 282

Sun used to ship optical mice all of the time. The major downside to them was the special reflective mouse pad which they required. If that got all funky, the mouse would start to act up and become unresponsive.

I'm not sure how these new MS mice operate, but I'm sure the surface they move across will affect how accurate they are.
