Admittedly, I have not played AD&D (D&D used to be different ruleset) since the 2nd edition. But back in the "good ol days" I played nearly every day for close to seven years (one campaign running during school lunch, and another with my best friends on weekend / holidays. Never ever did we associated any non-human race with a real human race. Matter of fact we never associated stuff in our fantasy world with real-life ever. Which is a good thing as 100% of the time was spent playing chaotic evil characters fucking shit up in fantasy land, because well its a game and playing evil characters is hilariously outrages to the point of absurdity.
The same stuff that makes B and C grade horror "funny" and darth vader a cool badass dude and skywalker an incestual punce.
When we wanted to play a Japanese assassin (our take on ninja) guess what! that character would be human. Wanted to play a bass ass big black warrior, again you'd choose human.
It's like the idiots who are now in charge don't know their own game. The good news is A: I don't play anymore and B: If I did play we would simply ignore all that woke shit in the same way we ignored the role 3x D6 for each stat. Also, we never put much thought about the real-life logistics of carrying around a Dragons hoard of loot 24x7 by foot.
