Yeah, once we've got nanoassemblers, we're pretty much screwed. Devour the planet? How about whole galaxies? A self-replicating machine that can fuel itself on any matter is the epitome of destructive (and creative, for that matter) power. On the other hand, I would like laser guns and flying cars, and nanotech seems to be on the route to those. So... Yay nanotech!
