There is a law that covers that. Ontario has three classes of violations for this:
  * Distracted driving. That's what was used here; it specifically outlaws using handheld electronic devices. This is the most recent law as well.
  * Careless driving. A generic offence that can cover things like using your console systems.
  * Dangerous driving; should be self-evident from the name. Probably requires a higher standard of evidence than the other two, and has correspondingly tougher penalties. Unlike the other two, it is a criminal offence. Includes an automatic one-year license suspension if convicted.

Yep. My paternal ancestor - great^4-grandfather, Joseph McDormond, settled in Nova Scotia following the Acadian expulsion of 1761; he appears in the census in 1791. There's even a weak link to Mary Boleyn, sister of Ann Boleyn, one of Henry VIII's wives.

On the other side, I don't have as much information but the family is definitely pre-Confederation. That's the side with the UEL.

Rope? Nah... let's take over their entertainment industry. ... oh wait, we already did. Seriously, cool; I'm a UEL too(on my mother's side) - and descended from English Acadians on my father's side (Irish immigrants to Nova Scotia in about 1760). Never ran across someone else descended from a UEL before. Or someone whose family was pre-Confederation, for that matter.
