I actually worked on this project. I am at the same company doing other things now, but every project uses it. It has had a lot of polish to make it really easy to use and also be very usable. It is really good at keeping management happy by giving reasonable forecasts on how long things will take, and give visibility into what developers are doing, without getting all caught up in the details. It has a pretty cool interface where you can see other people making modifications to stories and editing things, and has a nice drag-and-drop interface too.

I, too, am a programmer and will be trying to make my living with my craft, but I believe software services are a perfectly valid method to make money. Look at companies like IBM that are moving swinging strongly towards software services purely for monetary motives. Copyrighting what is basically math is not the right model and I firmly believe given long enough people will not buy software, but many forms of support and service from programmers for said software.

Their api isn't really their api, its the jabber api if I'm not mistaken. Furthermore, the most compelling reason to use Gtalk for me at least is the voice functionality which is sorely lacking in Pidgin and I'm assuming Adium.
