Journal glh's Journal: Quick Poll: New Years Resolution 10

Have you made a new years resolution this year-- if so what is it? If not, why?

Did you do one last year-- how long did it last if so?

What are some of the "big events" you are looking forward to this year, if any?

  • Have you made a new years resolution this year-- if so what is it? If not, why?

I've made a few so far...
    1. Trying to be a more "productive" Christian (reading my Bible more, trying to share my faith more)
    2. I want to lose about 10-15 lbs. My job tends to be a lot of sitting, and I need to exercise more.
    3. I want to start writing a journal again (not the slashdot kind, the more private kind you do in a notebook). I find it a very helpful way to get alone and reflect/think about things.

Did you do one last year-- how long did it last if so?

I didn't really have any last year. At least, if I did I don't remember what they are. Hopefully I won't suffer the same fate this year :)

What are some of the "big events" you are looking forward to this year, if any?

    1. A baby coming in June!
    2. Hopefully a promotion at work.
    3. Seeing our new Church grow to 50 people.
    4. ??
    5. Profit!

(just kidding on the last 2)

  • I didn't really make any, but I would like to start exercising more. I said the same thing in July, though, and that only lasted 4 months. :) It should be easier for the next few months, though, because I'm taking a weight training class. (Have to love those minimum credit requirements.)

I didn't make any resolutions last year, so none to break. :)

I'm giving myself half an hour of 'down-time' every day. I've gotten *way* too overactive, and really stressed out because of it.

Did you do one last year-- how long did it last if so?

Heh, last year was a funny one. I had to date at least one new guy a month until I found one worth keeping. It lasted 'till May, 'cause that's when I met The Boy, who I'm still dating.

What are some of the "big events" you are looking forward to this year, if any?

I'm not really the kind of person who plans that far ahead, so I have no idea what's coming :)

  • no previous resolutions.
    no new ones.
    no plans.

well... maybe a "take over the world" plan, but I don't think I'll have the time or energy to get that done in '03. Maybe next year.

Last year, none that I can remember.

Around the beginning of this year (5763, about 3 months ago) I decided to rectify four issues. Two involved things I decided that I stole. And two involve asking two people forgiveness for having slighted them. I decided to pay back first since I find that easier. I paid one last week, when I finally had enough money to pay it, and I working on the second one, since I have to track someone down.

As for big event s this year, none really planned. I'll just take it as it comes.
  • as part of a bigger push to get myself healthy and fit again. I'm also planning on eating healthy all the time and excercising a lot more, but the smoking is the first thing thats gotta go.
  • In general, I don't bother with new year resolutions. Few people actually stick to them, and I'd be no different. Therefore, I had none from last year. This year, I think I'm going to have a couple informal resolutions. Nothing too big or extravagant. What I'm thinking right now:

    1. Take my car out to the track more often. I'm already planning one afternoon lapping day early this spring, and I hope to do more. I also would like to do one or two more DE (driver education) days at the track, just to hone my skills.
    2. Take more vacations. After giving up 120 hours of vacation time from this last year, I've decided that it's just not worth wasting all of that. Therefore, I'm going to try to take more vacations, whether that be a week or two off, or one day here or there, or a long weekend every now and then. Resolution #1 should take care of a couple vacation days.
    3. TBD

I figure these resolutions aren't going to be too hard to follow, since they're fun things, and not "Lose 50 pounds" or "Get back into shape" or "Quit smoking".
  • No resolution as such last year, but this year I'm definitely going to be more in control of my money. I've started already - I'm in the process of forsaking my old-world bank (Barclays) for the brave new world of Internet banks (Smile). Once that's one, I'll have to start rebuilding my investment funds, and sort out a new pension fund.

Big personal event of last year was joining the broadband revolution, coupled with the arrival of Digital Radio in the UK. I expect to be buying a lot more music in 2003 as a result! Also, my sister's travails in her new life in Rome, working as an English teacher, have been a regular backdrop to 2002.
  • I don't normally go for the whole New Year's Resolutions deal, but this year I do have some which I am going to try my hardest to stick to...

    1) Regain control of my finances. I realised a little while ago that I am spending way too much and have little to show for it. 8-/ I need to cut back on frivolous expenses...

    2) Lose a further 10-15 kg. This I plan to do over about 6 months by continuing to watch what I eat and cut back on alcohol. (Which would also help achieve goal number 1.)

    3) Stop chasing after unattainable women. Get over it. It ain't gonna happen. Move on...

    4) Well... The is a fourth resolution, but it's more a goal than a resolution...

I actually had one resolution last year: to do something about my weight. I managed to lose about 30kg. Pretty happy about that! 8-)
  • Well, I'm in highschool (maybe I shouldn't have told anyone that, I think I can already feel the altered judgement) so I want to find a new part-time job to support my guitar habit. Also, I want to write better songs and get a bit of a fanbase happening for my (currently semi-existant) band.

I want to get the most out of my little Red Hat 7.3 box by doing some real coding, I also want to contribute more signal (as opposed to noise) to the Internet. (yeah, saying I'm in high-school definately was a bad idea, even I'm reading this comment differently because of it)...

Also, I just want to keep churning out the good karma (the new age, self-help, early nineties Oprah type, not the /. type) and keep up a good communication with God.

Oh, my final resolution is to avoid mentioning being in high-school when posting.

I have no idea who would be interested by any of this, so without further-a-do I will now hit the submmit button.
