I completed my degree at an institution without grades and at the time I thought that this was an abomination. The teachers and students give written evaluations. These evaluations have the advantage of nuance. Grades attempt to convey nuance on a sliding scale, but teachers see strengths and weaknesses that grading is rather poor at.

I think it would be great for "grade inflation" to cause the extinction of the metric that grading represents. It is much worse for an employer to read the thoughts of your teacher if you are unmotivated than to see a string of Bs.
