For $20 get a cheap video card with component out. Add a $70 wireless video and mouse transmitter/remote from x10 and you have everything your PC can dish out.
It isn't easy being the parent of a six-year-old. However, it's a pretty small price to pay for having somebody around the house who understands computers.
