Right-clicking a location and choosing "Adresse / Coordonnees du lieu" will display the corresponding w3w address.
If it's trusted by governments, then it's probably meant to stay and/or the governments already have access to the way an address is calculated.

- It wasn't a big fat 55Mb download, which could take forever to download if you're lost in a low signal area
- It was offering an offline map mode, so you don't need to download megabytes of maps before seeing where you are
Otherwise a pretty clever address system.
Yes you could give GPS coordinates, but if the accuracy is not enough, you can manually pinpoint your location to your precise 3x3 meters square.

Everyone in China already use Baidu Maps () or Gaode Maps (), why bother adding another one?
Of course they could just use OSM, but then... No control over what's displayed.
