Comment WHY DON'T WE JUST HACK THE VOTE? (Score 1) 100

If even half of us strongly opinionated and intellectually independent IT minded individuals would simply AGREE on something, the effect would be profound... For example, a small minority of clever folks with the right knowledge could really do us all a large favor and just 'fix' our broken democracy; As there have been dozens of exploits directly within the voting machines themselves, within the campaign advertising and finance systems, etc, it should be relatively easy to just use the establishment's dirty tricks against them. Why aren't the motivated black/grey/white hats of the world getting on the same page here? These racketeering assholes hire us techies to write their exploits and bend digital systems to their will, we keep reading about it. We really need a 'Deus Ex Machina' guided by the hand of some more intelligent folks for a change. Andrew Yang seems a decent choice, but really anyone who will play for the team would be great. HACK THE VOTE 2020!

Comment Apple broke my nice network setup! Again! (Score 1) 118

Every time I get a new Mac or update/reload my OS, I set the MAC address so that the statically assigned DHCP lease on my router assigns the right IP to my Mac.This way, I get the same local IP from my router every time, and don't have to frequently update all those nice forwarded ports for my VPNs, VOIP/SIP accounts, home security software, SONOS media remote sync, etc. Now I upgraded to Mojave where mommy and daddy (who are both Tim Cook) decided I don't get those privileges anymore. This always worked, until my Parents© decided there was some incentive against it... Now I have to edit my router's settings all over again. They don't think I should decide when my computer sleeps anymore, either. Now my home security applications suddenly disappear when I am away from my Mac for seemingly random intervals of time. I used to run the 'caffeinate' command at startup to resolve this, but... Now the Parents© decided running commands as startup items isn't safe for me anymore. I think I am going to move out of the Parents© house now and go get my own computer, likely one with Linux on it.
