Now while writing an entire sharepoint replacement in one line of perl is impressive, it doesn't really constitute a specific argument against MFC.

Not as impressive as bashing two different technologies in a single line of text, while at the same time disdainfully refusing to bash the third, thus showing even deeper contempt for it

What is the connotation of "quietly" supposed to be in stories like this? (Not just with Apple.) It seems like a weasel word. Is the intention to give the impression that Apple embarrassedly corrected themselves, or that they were forced to give into pressure from the developer community, but don't have the cojones to admit it, or what? Because, anyone honestly expecting something other than a "quiet" fix is deluded. Is a bug fix in DTrace supposed to get a slide at a Stevenote or something?
It's funny. Laugh.

I Will Derive 269

Jamie stumbled upon a very choice video this morning called I Will Derive. To the tune of some song you've never heard before, singing about subjects you know nothing about... oh and a a TI-84 cameo. It features the dopiest dancing you'll see on YouTube today. I promise.

Video on the logic board most likely. =( Doesn't sound like the LCD. This happens over time when the case and logic board flex each time you open the screen. If it flexed too far, you'll get the traces cracking which will lead to that type of behavior. Apple had the problem with their first G3 iBooks, but I thought they had remedied it. Ever had it repaired? It may not have been assembled properly (there's something like 60-80 screws on the way into a harddrive replacement), which could lead to this.
Apple laptop service tech guy here. =) Taken a few of them apart in my day.

Submission + - The First Thing IT Managers Do in the Morning?

An anonymous reader writes: When I was a wee-little IT Manager, I interviewed for a IT management position at an online CRM provider in San Francisco, a job I certainly was qualified for, at least on paper. One of the interviewer's questions was "What is the first thing you do when you get to work in the morning." I thought saying "Read Slashdot" wouldn't be what he was looking for — so I made up something, I'm sure, equally lame. Needless to say, I didn't get the job. But the question has stuck with me over the years. What do real IT and MIS managers do when they walk in to the office in the morning? What web sites or tools do they look at or use the first thing? Tell me. And remember, this is for posterity, so be honest.
