There are 4 careers in this world that are extremely demanding of high IQ. It's physics, medicine/chemistry, mathematics and... Software engineering. I have not understood why everyone is expected to know software engineering. It's like saying everyone should be a doctor or a physics professor. We don't need more incompetent coders and buzzword-slinging software managers, we need less of them and real "math-talent" in front of the IDE's. Really. Maybe this is because there is so much money in software... "Yeah I want to be a coders, because the salary is good, yeah I'm gonna be rich like Bill gates" - That's not in physics or medicine... No kids don't need to learn C++, rediculous. Teach them how to use an operating system, that's like enough life skill. Maybe html is a good thing to know.

According to the aliens I have been in contact with, humanity is -too underdeveloped in the science of diplomacy and politics. At earth they still wage war between nations and have stupid people as leaders. Sometimes war is in the name of a mythological being from some fictional book. And they are convinced that this being exists for real. Etc. However the humans on slashdot are considered developed and ready for communications, so therefore this message is here. If the aliens were to touch humanity, humanity would inevitably touch the diplomacy and politics of the aliens civilization. And they don't want that, since we are far too flawed in our systems of diplomacy.

Well I have observed another thing, that we can call the "new anti-mainstream counterculture". People seem to be fed up with the established media "MSM" for some obscure reason, fed up with the "politically correct elite" and casts a vote in pure desire to punch that they are fed up with. It's a trend in Europe as well... Maybe it's going to end with Trump and this election - people realizing that the alternatives to the social liberalism and mainstream opinion of the 1900's are just a bunch of bad ideas... (The only good "new" idea here is internet direct democracy) America realized they need the established politicians in charge and voted for an experienced guy with merits, realizing the Fringes of politics is full of shit and incompetence. I hope Europe will follow America.

I'm watching the US from Swedish eyes, The US Republican game with fake news, Donald Trump (wtf?!) as a "strong leader", racism, anti-science and low brow political rethorics reminds me of the russian counterculture(s) (Google it for some good history). Fact is, it might be related since russians can nowadays access America through the internet... The rupublicans of America may be more controlled by russian trolls today than they ever would believe... In my Swedish liberal mind I ask "Do 50% Americans actually VOTE for this crap?" when I see republican propaganda. The consensus among 50% of the Americans seems to be "I'm counter-socialism" and then they cast a vote for GOP... is it an old fear thing from the cold war? The democrats are "Liberals" from a European perspective... If you are a republican maybe spend some time on reading about Europe's political climate to get a healthy perspective...

I'm swedish, social democracy originates from Soviet Russia and is indeed infected by communist crap, look up the history of the russian revolution. However, Trump's rethoric about biden being "socialism" is retarded, America doesn't have any socialism, the democratic party in America is actually like the swedish liberal party... What I can say from Sweden is that it doesn't matter if the money comes from the tax payers or from private pockets, what matters is that the stuff it pays for works, the debate is like a discussion about if a library should funded with private donations or taxes... It doesn't matter, what matters is the books... The debate is so lowbrow and old now, to a modern mind in 2020 communism was a fiasco, fact. Too hard capitalism has got problems, fact. Social liberalism has been the system of civilization. All societys has had market economy mixed with a welfare system, ever since we lived in villages...
