I had my 2007 MacBookBook wall charger replaced by the Genius Bar because it had a defective cable and was part of some class action suit IIRC. I've had it less than 3 years and have been very careful with it. It always stays in the house and I never coil up the cord. In less than 3 years the white insulation material is disintegrating and coming off in various places in little pieces. The Genius Bar looked at it this time and said I would have to buy a new one. After asking some more questions, they didn't have any to replace it with anyway. I have since redone the cable with 3 layers of shrink tubing, which works fine, but now it looks and feels more like a power cord for an appliance. This is one area where Apple worries more about design than making sure the basics are covered.

Wrong! Hermit Crabs found in most US pet shops or on the boardwalk are commonly referred to as "Purple Pinchers". They carry around water in their shells and need access to both fresh and salt water (or a mix made from Instant Ocean) which they to adjust to their preferred salinity. A crab without its shell is in distress either because it needs to molt, has outgrown its shell or it's sick. Crabs will resist like crazy before they give up their shells because they have an instinctive need to have a shell protecting them. They always choose a shell with an opening that will be completely sealed by their large pinching claw. I have 5 crabs in a 20 gallon tank. They are an absolute riot to watch, especially when Shell-O-Rama occurs. When one crab swaps shells, the other ones watch and then try on the discarded shell. This can lead to a hilarious episode of frantic crabs running around trying to get their old shells back or rocking another crab back and forth to coax one out of a desirable shell. Eventually, things settle down and peace returns to the Crabitat.

In our area the only option is Dish network. In the small town of Quarryville, PA, the basic no-frills package includes the major networks and an equal number of religious channels. I laughed in the face of the Dish network sales guy because I thought he was kidding. Because he was a Mennonite and easily offended, I asked if they could provide a number of raunchy porn channels instead of all that "religious crap". The sales call ended badly of course.

I haven't had cable or even a TV set for the last 8 years. Being an early adopter, I had cable before any of my friends and remember MTV having maybe 20 videos on rotation at the time. Then I moved to rural Pennsylvania where there is no cable TV and opted out of the ridiculously overpriced satellite packages. I'm somewhat shocked these days when I visit friends who have cable and see what's currently popular. It seems impossible, but to me, TV is even more of a vast wasteland than it was 8 years ago. You can keep it. I do miss NFL games but there's a sports bar only 11 miles down the road.........
