My first thought is "Oh no, not more menu-items. I am already annoyed at the current structure."

For example: What is the use for Applications/Editors when Office/Wordprocessors exist (or vice versa).

But then, I actually agree with you. If the system was to be simplified that is (not becoming more complex). I really like your idea of "user-sensitive-menus" or rules.

This could also be very usable system for the general underlying catagorization (not sure of the spelling on THAT one), both on the filesystem but also as a standard for projects posted all over web. Search google for /linux/apps/math/plotters and get a listing of ALL current projects in that field.... Maybe impossible to implement... Just a thought.. tiiiired now.
