Have thought about this in the past. A company does not typically sponsor a car or gas for it or maintenance of it. There is an understanding that to perform work either on site or from home, a "vehicle" is going to be needed. The onus for this requirement has typically fallen on the person and not the company.

Your post reminded me of the rabbit vs the snail story I heard while growing up. The rabbit would run just far enough to beat the snail and promptly go to sleep untill the snail had caught up.

Eventually, rabbit slept just long enough for the snail to win the race.
