It's interesting, as MS are currently trying to revamp Windows to be a modular, single OS that can simply be added to / subtracted from to run on PC/tablet/phone/watch, rather than having distinct OSes to manage, as the latter didn't work out so well for them.

I don't know if "they" have simply won, or if these things truly don't matter; I just don't care any more. They aren't going to illegally transfer funds from my bank account, change my children's grades at school, give me a false criminal record, sign me up for Ashley Madison, or give a damn what I buy my wife for her birthday (advertising purposes aside). I just don't care. The OS works, I like it, I'm using it.

I *did* opt out of the unique advertising ID sharing, but who knows how trustworthy/thoroughly that option works. As I said, perhaps the makers of much of the software / electronic services we use have finally won, at least in my case, because I just don't care any more. I'm tired of worrying about every last thing that they might or could be doing that may be a bit creepy, or at least against my own concept of what's okay. I just want a PC that works, and 10 seems to give me that.

Just to put more nails in the wall to hang the picture on - it was never anything BUT a franchise. This and the original "Planet of the Apes" films are what launched the concept of toys & merchandise tie-ins. I was a kid when the original films came out, and still have most of the toys I got back then. It's fun, but there's no "art" here if you mean art in the "aspiring to something higher" sense - and Lucas sucked at even making it fun. Episode VII may have been a rehash, but at least the writing wasn't painful. New directors for the next two films, so let's see what happens.

I'm normally right there with you. I did go, but only to take my kids and wife on an outing. The difference in viewing at the theater was that my 13-year-old and I had animated conversations about the movie all the way home, so that was nice.

As we have all rehashed countless times, dollar count has no meaning (excepting charts that adjust dollar values for inflation, etc.). Number of tickets sold is far more informative.
