No one here has heard of Directory Services Restore Mode Password (aka. local admin account on a domain controller)? If the previous admin took all AD admin passwords with him, the best way to deal with it is to boot one of the Domain Controllers off a Linux Live CD and use the NT password changer to change this password. Then you can login in Directory Recovery Mode and create a service which upon startup will change your AD admin password(the service has to run as NT Authority System).
